After 34 minutes Gimnasia y Esgrima LP's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Rosendo Umbruso who took care of the corner kick. After 38 minutes of play, Gimnasia y Esgrima LP's Ladislao Roano made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. In the 47th minute, Jacinto Lordi got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Aldo Quin in the 52nd minute of play forced Gimnasia y Esgrima LP's goalkeeper Saul Esquipula to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ladislao Gelmiro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Saul Esquipula having to make a save. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jacinto Lordi during the 59th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Gimnasia y Esgrima LP's Jacinto Lordi got a free kick in the 59th minute. Saul Esquipula guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. Gimnasia y Esgrima LP's Saul Esquipula played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aldo Quin in the 80th minute of play. Saul Esquipula showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Aldo Quin in the 81st minute of the match. After some careless play in the Gimnasia y Esgrima LP defense, Ladislao Gelmiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Saul Esquipula. The Gimnasia y Esgrima LP fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Saul Esquipula should have stopped the shot. If Jacinto Lordi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
