Generoso Merexildo might have been able to make a better finish in the 19th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Benito Martxelin. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Generoso Merexildo ran back to his position shaking his head. Benito Martxelin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Generoso Merexildo in the 33rd minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Generoso Merexildo in the 36th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benito Martxelin saved Bitter Hearts from getting behind. 38 minutes into the match, River Plate's goal looked a bit too open when Jeronimo Vincente came free, but Alejo Nofre reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Benito Martxelin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Generoso Merexildo, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jeronimo Vincente during the 44th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Bitter Hearts's Julian Beltza got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Luciano Mel to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luciano Mel in the 53rd minute of play forced Bitter Hearts's goalkeeper Benito Martxelin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jimeno Gonzo's late challenge caught a Bitter Hearts's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. In the 100thth minute of the game Jeronimo Vincente who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but River Plate's Alejo Nofre was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. River Plate's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
