Nicasio Ederono was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Santiago Ubelteso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 11th minute Santiago Ubelteso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Felix Fernandez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rene Felo in the 18th minute of play forced Mencué's goalkeeper Nicasio Ederono to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 19th match minute, Mencué was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Zeledon Vergaray to maneuver through the defense. Santiago Ubelteso blasted a shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Felix Fernandez having to make a save. Florentino Enekoitz's late challenge caught a Mencué's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Florentino Enekoitz helped the player get up and apologised. In the 26th minute, Florentino Enekoitz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Felix Fernandez stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Santiago Ubelteso's shot from short distance in the 27th minute. Ruben Theodore kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. In the 35th play minute Fernando Perez came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Nicasio Ederono. 2-0. Fernando Perez struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. Nicasio Ederono didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Leon. In the 43rd minute Rene Felo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nicasio Ederono saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 45 minutes into the match, Santiago Checa notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of Mencué's Nicasio Ederono. Nicasio Ederono was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Santiago Ubelteso stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Leon booed when Mencué was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Justo Lluterio didn't get a good kick on the ball. 62 minutes into the match, Mencué's goal looked a bit too open when Rene Felo came free, but Nicasio Ederono reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Santiago Ubelteso might have been able to make a better finish in the 64th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Felix Fernandez. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Santiago Ubelteso ran back to his position shaking his head. After some fancy dribbling in the 67th minute, Fernando Perez managed to get in a good position for a shot. Leon's supporters rose to their feet, but Fernando Perez was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nicasio Ederono breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Leon booed when Mencué was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zeledon Vergaray didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fernando Perez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nicasio Ederono having to interfere. In the 73rd minute Rene Felo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nicasio Ederono saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nicasio Ederono showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fernando Perez in the 81st minute of the match. In the 82nd match minute, Mencué was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Amancio Gimenez to maneuver through the defense. Fernando Perez recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 85th minute Rene Felo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nicasio Ederono saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 87th minute, Santiago Ubelteso got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 89th minute, Leon's Salvador Olayo seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Salvador Olayo the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Leon protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Salvador Olayo had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. When the match had been going on for 91 minutes, Mencué's Esteve Tono got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Felix Fernandez. Amancio Gimenez hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. Leon's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
