After 4 played minutes Real Madrid CF got a freekick which was hit by Sebastian Natanael. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marcelo Felipillo in the 13th minute of play forced Independiente's goalkeeper Filiberto Dimo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bernabe Llorenc sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 18th minute, Jimeno Amor hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Real Madrid CF's zone, Bernabe Llorenc stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arnulfo Celino came out of the goal and Bernabe Llorenc tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 26 minutes into the match, Real Madrid CF's goalkeeper Arnulfo Celino had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ramon Ibon. Ramon Ibon recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 27th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 28th minute, Independiente's Bernabe Llorenc dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. Ramon Ibon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arnulfo Celino having to interfere. Arnulfo Celino stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bernabe Llorenc's shot from short distance in the 35th minute. Bernabe Llorenc received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Arnulfo Celino tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bernabe Llorenc was the one to do the kick off. 54 minutes into the match, Real Madrid CF's goal looked a bit too open when Bernabe Llorenc came free, but Arnulfo Celino reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Real Madrid CF's Jimeno Amor got a free kick in the 55th minute. Ramon Ibon received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Arnulfo Celino tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 69th minute, Ramon Ibon got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Filiberto Dimo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcelo Felipillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gerardo Ramone kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. If Marcelo Felipillo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Arnulfo Celino showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ramon Ibon in the 79th minute of the match. After 80 minutes, Agustin Veronica mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Independiente and the Real Madrid CF players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Independiente's Agustin Veronica got a free kick in the 80th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 84th minute, Ramon Ibon managed to get in a good position for a shot. Independiente's supporters rose to their feet, but Ramon Ibon was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Arnulfo Celino breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ricardo Hermon took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 95th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Arnulfo Celino. Real Madrid CF's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Independiente fans cheered their team off the field, for while Real Madrid CF had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
