Angelo Rencio was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Santiago Blanco showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luis Gurutz, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. 37 minutes into the match, Club Atlético de Madrid's goal looked a bit too open when Gerardo Giraldo came free, but Santiago Blanco reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 43 minutes, Gualterio Heli managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Merced's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gualterio Heli was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 45th minute, Isaias Lertxun reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Angelo Rencio. The goal made the score 2-1. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Gualterio Heli fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Santiago Blanco having to interfere. When Gualterio Heli came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Merced fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gualterio Heli couldn't finish the play. Club Atlético de Madrid's Santiago Blanco played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gualterio Heli in the 93rd minute of play.
