Mario Bertran didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Guzmán. The audience was convinced that Braulio Llorenc's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mario Bertran was relentless in the 18th minute of the game. After 22 played minutes Guzmán got a freekick which was hit by Jaime Lixandro. Ivan Goi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mario Bertran having to interfere. Bartolo Gutierrez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cipriano Quilo charged in rather forcefully in the 30th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cipriano Quilo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After having played for 35 minutes, Arsenio Vargas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. San Martin's supporters crossed their fingers, but Arsenio Vargas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 36th minute, Bartolo Gutierrez got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to Guzmán getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Gaston Iturri hit a great ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Bartolo Gutierrez to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Braulio Llorenc in the 59th minute of play forced San Martin's goalkeeper Mario Bertran to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Guzmán booed when San Martin was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Justo Elivareo didn't get a good kick on the ball. The long shot by Gaston Iturri in the 73rd minute really tested Mario Bertran's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Gustavo Librado stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Arsenio Vargas's shot from short distance in the 79th minute. Cipriano Quilo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Mario Bertran tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 89th match minute, San Martin was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Justo Elivareo to maneuver through the defense. In the 90th minute of the match Gaston Iturri sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Mario Bertran skillfully saved the ball. The supporters of Guzmán booed when San Martin was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Justo Elivareo didn't get a good kick on the ball. 95 minutes into the game, Arsenio Vargas cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Gustavo Librado was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The San Martin fans cheered their team off the field, for while Guzmán had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
