Mendoza's supporters rose to their feet, but Diego Polo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Roman Larpe breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ariel Cheche's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Roman Larpe read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 15th minute of play. After 21 played minutes Mendoza got a freekick which was hit by Placido Garikoitz. In the 22nd minute of the match Pastor Aritza sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Sievert Liche skillfully saved the ball.
