Spectators: 7065 (Terracing: 5408, Seating: 1657, VIP seats: 0) Jose Iyan started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. When Flavio Fero came up free with the goalie in the 4th minute, the River Plate fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Flavio Fero couldn't finish the play. 7 minutes into the game, Saverio Lizbeth was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Deportivo Racing club's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave River Plate the free kick. The supporters of River Plate booed when Deportivo Racing club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Saverio Lizbeth didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Baldomiro Bertin in the 9th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Aristides Ekialde prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Hugo Markel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jose Iyan in the 12th minute of play. Deportivo Racing club's Pastor Oihenarte got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jose Iyan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Hugo Markel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Flavio Fero might have been able to make a better finish in the 18th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Aristides Ekialde. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Flavio Fero ran back to his position shaking his head. After having played for 20 minutes, Baldomiro Bertin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. River Plate's supporters crossed their fingers, but Baldomiro Bertin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Deportivo Racing club getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Saverio Lizbeth hit a great ball. In the 26th minute, Dalmacio Tab sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Deportivo Racing club's Aristides Ekialde didn't even have to move. Hugo Markel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jose Iyan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jose Iyan blasted a shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Hugo Markel having to make a save. River Plate's Hugo Markel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jose Iyan in the 34th minute of play. The supporters of Deportivo Racing club booed when River Plate was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Agustin Corderall didn't get a good kick on the ball. Pastor Oihenarte received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 44th minute. Hugo Markel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Baldomiro Bertin to make the kick off. In the 52nd minute Flavio Fero shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aristides Ekialde saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 55th minute, Baldomiro Bertin ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Aristides Ekialde was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Saverio Lizbeth fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hugo Markel having to interfere. Aristides Ekialde took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Flavio Fero, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Flavio Fero's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Aristides Ekialde read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 64th minute of play. Aristides Ekialde showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Baldomiro Bertin, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. 69 minutes into the match, Deportivo Racing club's goal looked a bit too open when Baldomiro Bertin came free, but Aristides Ekialde reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 73rd minute, Eloy Urdin got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to Deportivo Racing club getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Eloy Urdin hit a great ball. Dalmacio Tab, 78 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. River Plate's Hugo Markel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 81st minute of the match, managed to save River Plate from getting a goal against them. 86 minutes into the match, River Plate's Flavio Fero sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Aristides Ekialde narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Baldomiro Bertin recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Hugo Markel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pastor Oihenarte in the 92nd minute. Fernan Mitxaut lost his temper 96 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 95th minute of the game. One of River Plate:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Deportivo Racing club:s goal. Leonel Sendoa placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! River Plate's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
