River Plate's supporters rose to their feet, but Atilano Cordearo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mario Gonzo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the match had gone on for 26 minutes, Manuel Salvidor put it in 0-4 from a short distance just to the right of Mario Gonzo. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ciriaco Leoncio got free with Delmiro Ireno in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in LUJAN F.C.'s zone, Fermin Cordara stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mario Gonzo came out of the goal and Fermin Cordara tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

Mario Gonzo yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-7. Mario Gonzo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Manuel Salvidor, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. Mario Gonzo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fermin Cordara in the 96th minute of play. River Plate played a much better game than LUJAN F.C. and deserved their victory. The LUJAN F.C. players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
