Benard's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jesus Urtun was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Urbano Perez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Freddy Isias in the 13th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Jesus Urtun managed to get in a good position for a shot. Benard's supporters rose to their feet, but Jesus Urtun was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Urbano Perez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Justo Gervaso's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mauro Ospin read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. In the 24th minute Placido Maiorga shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mauro Ospin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 27 minutes into the match, Chañar AFC's goalkeeper Urbano Perez had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jesus Urtun. Mauro Ospin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Justo Gervaso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Placido Maiorga's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mauro Ospin was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.
