Nikolaos Karagounis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Abelardo Cambranes having to interfere. Alonzo Hotz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Aristides Txilar in the 9th minute of the match. When Severiano Oskitz came up free with the goalie in the 11th minute, the La inerte barra de carbón fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Severiano Oskitz couldn't finish the play. The throw-in from Alejandro Montel in the 14th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by La inerte barra de carbón's Dida Prestes. 19 minutes into the match, La inerte barra de carbón's goalkeeper Alonzo Hotz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Clemente Xacintu. Alonzo Hotz made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Clemente Xacintu sent off a good shot on target. In the 31st minute Osvaldo Potente shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Abelardo Cambranes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alonzo Hotz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
