But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Abelardo Monico couldn't finish the play. The audience was convinced that Abelardo Monico's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Aquilino Santana was relentless in the 11th minute of the game. The Los Planktons fans' excitement grew in the 13th match minute when Los Planktons's Abelardo Monico looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After 18 played minutes Atlético Devoto got a freekick which was hit by Bernardino Enaut. A collision led to Atlético Devoto getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Bernardino Enaut hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Abelardo Monico managed to get in a good position for a shot. Los Planktons's supporters rose to their feet, but Abelardo Monico was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Aquilino Santana breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 25 played minutes Atlético Devoto got a freekick which was hit by Miguel Francis. In the 28th minute, Abelardo Monico got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 29th minute, Abelardo Monico managed to get in a good position for a shot. Los Planktons's supporters rose to their feet, but Abelardo Monico was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Abelardo Monico recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Abelardo Monico stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Bernardino Enaut kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. Aquilino Santana showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Abelardo Monico, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. When Celso Cristos came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Los Planktons fans jumped to their feet. Gaudencio Quintana's late challenge caught a Los Planktons's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Los Planktons's supporters crossed their fingers, but Abelardo Monico was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 70th minute, Abelardo Monico made a precise shot to the right of Aquilino Santana. Atlético Devoto's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. Abelardo Monico sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ovidio Dominguez was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 84th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Teodoro Gustau. The supporters of Los Planktons booed when Atlético Devoto was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arnoldo Illan didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Abelardo Monico in the 90th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Aquilino Santana saved Atlético Devoto from getting behind. Celso Cristos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aquilino Santana having to interfere. 93 minutes into the match, Atlético Devoto's goal looked a bit too open when Abelardo Monico came free, but Aquilino Santana reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Los Planktons were awarded a corner in the 95th minute after Atlético Devoto's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Justino Horado took the corner. After taking down the ball on Los Planktons's corner Justino Horado fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Aquilino Santana quite easily take care of the ball. In the 97th minute of the match Agustin Lluc sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Aquilino Santana skillfully saved the ball.
