Pastor Maldonado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Javier Eduino having to interfere. When Joel Harkaitz came up free with the goalie in the 9th minute, the Empedrado fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Joel Harkaitz couldn't finish the play. Marcial Claude's late challenge caught a Empedrado's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Marcial Claude helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Empedrado booed when the shield was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcial Claude didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 15th minute, Fernando Barrionuevo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Eloy Munio managed to get in a good position for a shot. Empedrado's supporters rose to their feet, but Eloy Munio was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Javier Eduino breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.
Empedrado's Pastor Maldonado got a good chance for a goal in the 57th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Empedrado's Eleuterio Pes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hermengildo Chale in the 59th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eloy Munio in the 61st minute of play forced the shield's goalkeeper Javier Eduino to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 63rd minute, Hermengildo Chale reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Eleuterio Pes. The goal made the score 1-1. If Pastor Maldonado had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Joel Harkaitz took the ball and in the 70 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Javier Eduino. Javier Eduino dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. In the 93rd minute, Hermengildo Chale got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Pastor Maldonado struck a weak shot in the 96th minute. Javier Eduino didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Empedrado. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
