After recieving a nice pass, Sportivo Ave Fenix's Oscar Rencio tried to score from far away in the 17th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Cristobal Gaufred took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alberto Montez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A hard shot 20 in the game by Ignacio Iliana from a close distance when the talented Melquiades Aureo managed to make a qualified save. Sportivo Ave Fenix's players were relieved. The supporters of Instituto Plate booed when Sportivo Ave Fenix was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Simon Terciero didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 32nd minute Santiago Poncio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Melquiades Aureo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpected shot in the 34th minute by Santiago Poncio got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Santiago Poncio managed to get in a good position for a shot. The referee ignored Instituto Plate's protests and gave Abel Federigo a yellow card for diving instead. In the 43rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Instituto Plate's goalkeeper Cristobal Gaufred, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 44 minutes into the match, Sportivo Ave Fenix's Alberto Montez sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Cristobal Gaufred narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Santiago Poncio stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Santiago Poncio in the 51st minute of play forced Sportivo Ave Fenix's goalkeeper Melquiades Aureo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Everyone was convinced a goal was close when Sportivo Ave Fenix's Eleuterio Azubeli in the 54th minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Cristobal Gaufred was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for Instituto Plate through an amazing save. Cristobal Gaufred showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eleuterio Azubeli, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. After 61 minutes, Moises Ferrer mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Instituto Plate and the Sportivo Ave Fenix players grew even worse after the yellow card. Melquiades Aureo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Santiago Poncio in the 71st minute of play. In the 77th minute, Abel Federigo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Melquiades Aureo was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Cristobal Gaufred made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Montez in the 80th minute of play. Santiago Poncio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute.
