In the 6th minute there was a penalty for Febre. Mariano Feliu stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Clemente Gaskon. 0-1. A hard shot 11 in the game by Angel Jordy from a close distance when the talented Nestor Quinito managed to make a qualified save. Febre's players were relieved. Febre's Humberto Barrionuevo suffered a concussion in the 13th minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Marcelino Jurgi during the 13th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 13th minute, Marcelino Jurgi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Clemente Gaskon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Melquiades Estevez in the 18th minute of play. Febre's Melquiades Estevez got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Melquiades Estevez's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Clemente Gaskon read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 23rd minute of play. Domingos Erramun struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. Clemente Gaskon didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Febre. Clemente Gaskon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Melquiades Estevez, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. When Patricio Chorache fell near the penalty area in the 31st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored River Plate's protests and gave Patricio Chorache a yellow card for diving instead. Patricio Chorache hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. The supporters of Febre booed when River Plate was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Elazar didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mariano Feliu, 34 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Clemente Gaskon showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Melquiades Estevez in the 39th minute of the match. If Benedicto Suero had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Nestor Quinito made a fantastic save in the 43rd minute, when Angel Jordy sent off a good shot on target. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Angel Jordy recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 61st minute, Melquiades Estevez managed to get in a good position for a shot. Febre's supporters rose to their feet, but Melquiades Estevez was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Clemente Gaskon breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Nestor Quinito came out of the goal in the 68th minute to try and stop a shot by River Plate's Angel Jordy. But to his dismay, Angel Jordy quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Angel Jordy blasted a shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Nestor Quinito having to make a save. Melquiades Estevez received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Clemente Gaskon tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 87 minutes into the match, River Plate's goal looked a bit too open when Melquiades Estevez came free, but Clemente Gaskon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Angel Jordy's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nestor Quinito read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 89th minute of play. Clemente Gaskon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Melquiades Estevez, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. Nestor Quinito came out of the goal in the 93rd minute to try and stop a shot by River Plate's Angel Jordy. But to his dismay, Angel Jordy quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. River Plate's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
