Rene Cordeiro scored 0-2 in the 23rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Saturnino Ponciano, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The referee ignored River Plate's protests and gave Sebastian Dacio a yellow card for diving instead. In the 30th minute, one of River Plate:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for River Plate. Fausto Maurino had in the 32ndth minute some difficulties stopping Elpidio Eliu's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. In the 32nd minute, Elpidio Eliu made a precise shot to the right of Fausto Maurino. River Plate's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. Adrian Piorno got his second yellow card in the match during the 35th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. Adrian Piorno kicked well hit freekick during the 35th minute of the match. If Tobias Garikoitz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gimnasia de las Torres's Tobias Garikoitz got a good chance for a goal in the 41st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Juan Pereyra to make the kick off. River Plate's supporters rose to their feet, but Rolando Itzaina was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
