The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Niceto Sidro during the 5th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of River Plate booed when Monserrat FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Niceto Sidro didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dionisio Ekhi was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 6th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Melquiades Ladio. Rene Cordeiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 10th minute, Rene Cordeiro made a precise shot to the right of Dionisio Ekhi. Monserrat FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. In the 14thth minute of the game Fernando Matei who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Monserrat FC's Dionisio Ekhi was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Raimundo Francho took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 18th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Dionisio Ekhi. Monserrat FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Adrian Piorno sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After having played for 26 minutes, Anselmo Bilintx managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Monserrat FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Anselmo Bilintx was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Anselmo Bilintx might have been able to make a better finish in the 27th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Fausto Maurino. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Anselmo Bilintx ran back to his position shaking his head. Monserrat FC's Dionisio Ekhi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fernando Matei in the 33rd minute of play. In the 35th minute, Rene Cordeiro fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Dionisio Ekhi, passed just outside the right post. Fernando Matei received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Dionisio Ekhi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 39 minutes into the game, Ciro Txomin was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Monserrat FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave River Plate the free kick. Ciro Txomin hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. Fernando Matei received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Dionisio Ekhi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 44 played minutes Monserrat FC got a freekick which was hit by Donato Lucero. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Anselmo Bilintx to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fernando Matei in the 52nd minute of play forced Monserrat FC's goalkeeper Dionisio Ekhi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fernando Matei blasted a shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Dionisio Ekhi having to make a save. After having played for 58 minutes, Paulino Justin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Monserrat FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Paulino Justin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience was convinced that Anselmo Bilintx's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fausto Maurino was relentless in the 60th minute of the game. Anselmo Bilintx recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 71st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 74th match minute, River Plate was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Miguel Hotz to maneuver through the defense. Anselmo Bilintx received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Fausto Maurino tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 79th minute Anselmo Bilintx shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fausto Maurino saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rene Cordeiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dionisio Ekhi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fernando Matei, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. Niceto Sidro was shown his second yellow card after 86 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 87th minute, Niceto Sidro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dionisio Ekhi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fernando Matei in the 88th minute of the match. After some careless play in the Monserrat FC defense, Rene Cordeiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dionisio Ekhi. The Monserrat FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dionisio Ekhi should have stopped the shot.
