Serafin Pitin came out of the goal and Rene Cordeiro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Fernando Matei came up free with the goalie in the 17th minute, the River Plate fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fernando Matei couldn't finish the play. In the 22nd minute, Rolando Itzaina got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 24 minutes into the match, Gambrinus City's goal looked a bit too open when Fernando Matei came free, but Serafin Pitin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 28 played minutes Gambrinus City got a freekick which was hit by Amado Perez. Rene Cordeiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Serafin Pitin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fernando Matei, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of River Plate booed when Gambrinus City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 35 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rene Ostots didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fernando Matei sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Emiliano Bermund made a kick off. If Emiliano Bermund had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. Thanks to some nice moves Adrian Piorno could shoot a difficult shot in the 60th minute, which Serafin Pitin however easily saved by the left post. After 61 played minutes Gambrinus City got a freekick which was hit by Gogo Loreto. In the 71st minute, Rene Cordeiro fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Serafin Pitin, passed just outside the right post. River Plate's Rene Cordeiro came free and shot a quick shot against goal 75 minutes in the game, fortunately Serafin Pitin had problems saving as it came toward the left post. Emiliano Bermund sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fulgencio Raymond kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. After 82 played minutes, River Plate's Melquiades Ladio shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Serafin Pitin came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in River Plate reached it. Emiliano Bermund fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fausto Maurino having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 90th minute, Emiliano Bermund managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gambrinus City's supporters rose to their feet, but Emiliano Bermund was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fausto Maurino breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 93 minutes, Rolando Itzaina managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. River Plate's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rolando Itzaina was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Rene Cordeiro came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the River Plate fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rene Cordeiro couldn't finish the play. Gambrinus City succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though River Plate had controlled the match.
