The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Emanuel Joachim kicked well hit freekick during the 4th minute of the match. Pozuelos's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Cleto Atarrabi 8 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-0. In the 13th match minute, Pozuelos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ovidio Eskuin to maneuver through the defense. When Sixto Alfonso fell near the penalty area in the 18th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Pozuelos's protests and gave Sixto Alfonso a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Pozuelos getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Sixto Alfonso hit a great ball. Clemente Lauren's shot from long distance in the 19th minute was not bad at all, but Pozuelos's Constantino Amaya knew what was happening and pushed the ball into his arms just before it hit the right post. In the 22nd minute Ladislao Gurutz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nereo Ralondo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nereo Ralondo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ladislao Gurutz in the 24th minute of play. During the 25th minute of the match Emanuel Joachim completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Emanuel Joachim a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. In the 26th minute, Emanuel Joachim hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 27th minute of the match Baldomero Mitxaut sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Nereo Ralondo skillfully saved the ball. Nereo Ralondo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Romeo Egoitz, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Nereo Ralondo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Romeo Egoitz in the 33rd minute of play. Romeo Egoitz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 36th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ladislao Gurutz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nereo Ralondo having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Ladislao Gurutz's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nereo Ralondo was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game. Nereo Ralondo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sixto Alfonso in the 47th minute of the match. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ladislao Gurutz stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Matias Ugutz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Constantino Amaya having to interfere. Romeo Egoitz who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 60thth minute tested the skills of Nereo Ralondo when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Pozuelos's Ladislao Gurutz got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Romeo Egoitz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Nereo Ralondo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nereo Ralondo made a fantastic save in the 76th minute, when Romeo Egoitz sent off a good shot on target. When Romeo Egoitz came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Pozuelos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Romeo Egoitz couldn't finish the play. Ladislao Gurutz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Salvador Beat during the 90th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Salvador Beat kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. Pozuelos's Sixto Alfonso got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 96 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Merengue! Despite being the better team, Pozuelos failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
