Newells Old Boys's Nereo Xabat proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 38th minute of the match, managed to save Newells Old Boys from getting a goal against them. In the 41st minute, Ermegildo Esquipula got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Isaias Seber hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. Denis Lopez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ermegildo Esquipula in the 45th minute of the match. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Saturnino Gitano stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the game, Cachipampa FC's Uriel Leheren nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. When Sixto Heriberto came up free with the goalie in the 77th minute, the Cachipampa FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sixto Heriberto couldn't finish the play. Uriel Leheren received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Nereo Xabat tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nereo Xabat made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Uriel Leheren in the 84th minute of play. After having played for 85 minutes, Sixto Heriberto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cachipampa FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sixto Heriberto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Denis Lopez made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ermegildo Esquipula in the 89th minute. The supporters of Newells Old Boys booed when Cachipampa FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Isaias Seber didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Ermegildo Esquipula had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
