After the first half River Plate were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When Remigio George came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the villa ortuchaca fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Remigio George couldn't finish the play. River Plate's Maximo Salbatore got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The River Plate players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
