Jacobo Balesio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 27th minute Igor Paz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fernando Tomi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Igor Paz kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Fernando Tomi. That made the score 1-1 in the 29 minute of play. Jacobo Balesio could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 35th minute of the match, but Fernando Tomi made a huge save. 36 minutes into the game, Robustiano Luix threw the ball into play from the sideline. River Plate FC's Igor Paz quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. 37 minutes into the game, Igor Paz recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Fernando Tomi. Igor Paz showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-1. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

After a rather tough play, Peñarol FC's Marcos Oliverios got a free kick in the 54th minute. River Plate FC's Igor Paz quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Robustiano Luix, made in the 60th minute of the game. Igor Paz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Fernando Tomi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Justino Iratxo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alberto Giraldo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 66 minutes, Igor Paz mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the River Plate FC and the Peñarol FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Igor Paz hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. Alberto Giraldo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Igor Paz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Fernando Tomi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Alberto Giraldo came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Peñarol FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alberto Giraldo couldn't finish the play. Justino Iratxo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alberto Giraldo, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. 92 minutes into the game, Juan Ortle cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-2. Justino Iratxo was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Jacobo Balesio hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the River Plate FC players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
