After a rather tough play, independiente's Hernan Gutierrez got a free kick in the 26th minute. Serafin Quirce took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Silvio Dodorol, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Maximo Santxol recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Everardo Gorbea fell near the penalty area in the 40th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Julio Humberto's protests and gave Everardo Gorbea a yellow card for diving instead. Everardo Gorbea kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. In the 44th minute of the match Aureliano Onbera sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Valentin Lopes skillfully saved the ball. 47 minutes into the game, independiente's Arsenio Flores nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Valentin Lopes made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

Serafin Quirce came out of the goal and Silvio Dodorol tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Dalmacio Garikoitz's late challenge caught a independiente's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dalmacio Garikoitz helped the player get up and apologised. After 83 played minutes Julio Humberto got a freekick which was hit by Dalmacio Garikoitz. Serafin Quirce showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Silvio Dodorol, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. After 86 minutes, Rodolfo Garcia mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the independiente and the Julio Humberto players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 86th match minute, independiente was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rodolfo Garcia to maneuver through the defense. In the 88th minute, Leonardo Iraunkor ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Serafin Quirce was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-3. The referee ignored independiente's protests and gave Arsenio Flores a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched independiente eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
