The coaching staff of Salto protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Leon Pietro had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 37 minutes into the game, one of Salto:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. When the match had been going on for 40 minutes, Manchester United's Faustino Igon got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Haroldo Heriberto. Maximino Sanchez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cristian Chepe having to interfere. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Maximino Sanchez managed to get in a good position for a shot. Salto's supporters rose to their feet, but Maximino Sanchez was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cristian Chepe breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Godofredo Francho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. A very good chance. 75 minutes into the match, Salto's goal looked a bit too open when Roman Hotz came free, but Haroldo Heriberto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tobias Frances during the 75th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Manchester United booed when Salto was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tobias Frances didn't get a good kick on the ball. 85 minutes into the match, Manchester United's goalkeeper Cristian Chepe had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Maximino Sanchez.
