Mario Primo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Fernando Frasco tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Enzo Gaztea made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from David Urki in the 24th minute of play. After the first half Newells old Boys were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell David Urki to make the kick off. After having played for 53 minutes, Mario Primo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Newells old Boys's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mario Primo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ceferino Cidro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fernando Frasco having to interfere. After 69 played minutes Club Atlético River Grand got a freekick which was hit by Erasmo Elazar. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mario Primo in the 72nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Fernando Frasco prevented the ball from getting in the gole. David Urki struck a weak shot in the 82nd minute. Enzo Gaztea didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Club Atlético River Grand. Club Atlético River Grand's defense didn't have a chance, in the 93rd minute, when Ceferino Cidro scored to the left of an out of position Fernando Frasco, making the score, 0-2.
