After some fancy dribbling in the 4th minute, Marcos Restu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vélez Sarsfield's supporters rose to their feet, but Marcos Restu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Aldo Licerio breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 5 minutes, Inocencio Sandaili mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Knights of Cydonia and the Vélez Sarsfield players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 6 played minutes Knights of Cydonia got a freekick which was hit by Inocencio Sandaili. Vélez Sarsfield's Vicente Rivas shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 6th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Aldo Licerio but with some difficulty. In the 12th minute, Marcos Restu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A hard shot 16 in the game by Marcos Restu from a close distance when the talented Aldo Licerio managed to make a qualified save. Knights of Cydonia's players were relieved. Laureano Haritzeder sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Humberto Xabat hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. If Emiliano Abechuco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 31 minutes into the match, Knights of Cydonia's goal looked a bit too open when Esteve Quilino came free, but Aldo Licerio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marcos Restu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 33rd minute of the match, but Aldo Licerio made a huge save. Laureano Haritzeder received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Guillermo Checa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Guillermo Checa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Emiliano Abechuco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Aldo Licerio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Esteve Quilino, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. Esteve Quilino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aldo Licerio having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Esteve Quilino stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute Laureano Haritzeder shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Guillermo Checa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Aldo Licerio came out of the goal in the 57th minute to try and stop a shot by Vélez Sarsfield's Esteve Quilino. But to his dismay, Esteve Quilino quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. After 63 minutes of play, Vélez Sarsfield's Esteve Quilino made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Aldo Licerio was left in no man's land by his defense there! Guillermo Checa made a fantastic save in the 70th minute, when Emiliano Abechuco sent off a good shot on target. In the 79th match minute, Vélez Sarsfield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Emilio Edur to maneuver through the defense. 80 minutes into the match, Knights of Cydonia's Zacarias Montrelle broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. If Emiliano Abechuco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 87th minute the ball was on its way in behind Knights of Cydonia's goalkeeper Aldo Licerio, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar.
