Club Atlético River Plate's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Mariño the free kick. The supporters of Mariño booed when Club Atlético River Plate was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Victorino Monico didn't get a good kick on the ball. 23 minutes into the game, Melquiades Chuse was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mariño's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Club Atlético River Plate the free kick. A collision led to Mariño getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Melquiades Chuse hit a great ball. After recieving a nice pass, Club Atlético River Plate's Rigoberto Merexildo tried to score from far away in the 24th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. If Paolo Mingo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Santos Baumer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eriberto Benitez in the 31st minute of play. Santos Baumer was a little too slow when Eriberto Benitez got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 35th minute. The score was now 1-1. Victorino Monico fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Santos Baumer having to interfere. Claudio Marino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elpidio Fortun in the 45th minute of play forced Club Atlético River Plate's goalkeeper Bernardo Chuse to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Claudio Marino recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 48th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Eriberto Benitez to make the kick off. When the match clock showed 54 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Eriberto Benitez sped through Mariño's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Santos Baumer. In the 59th minute the ball was on its way in behind Mariño's goalkeeper Santos Baumer, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Elpidio Fortun's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Bernardo Chuse read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 61st minute of play. In the 62nd minute, Jesus Palben hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Club Atlético River Plate booed when Mariño was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rolando Rios didn't get a good kick on the ball. 70 minutes into the game, Paolo Mingo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Santos Baumer was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Elpidio Fortun received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Bernardo Chuse came out and tried to block the shot, but Elpidio Fortun slotted it home off the left post making it 3-2 in the 81st minute. When Mariño's Elpidio Fortun in the 86th minute got a chance for a shot 86th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Club Atlético River Plate's goalie prevented a goal.
