Gimnasia y Esgrima de J.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Cirilo Gutierrez was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 23 minutes into the match, Esquel's goalkeeper Higinio Bikendi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Eleuterio Erasto. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

Israel Mannuel hit a great ball. In the 70th minute Donato Teyo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marciano Jerardo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Eleuterio Erasto scored 5-0 in the 74th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Higinio Bikendi, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Gimnasia y Esgrima de J.'s Rene Karmel was substituted for Virgilio Emeterio. In the 83rd minute, Emiliano Salvator hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 90 minutes into the game, Emiliano Salvator was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Gimnasia y Esgrima de J.'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Esquel the free kick. In the 90th match minute, Gimnasia y Esgrima de J. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Emiliano Salvator to maneuver through the defense. Tadeo Astrada sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Bruno Martxel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
