When the match had been going on for 6 minutes, Club Atletico River Plate's Arnaldo Austin got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Cristobal Peter. Alfonso Meder received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Isidro Gorri tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rafael Guillelmus sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Enzo Poncio during the 14th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. When Rolando Baumar fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored C. A. River Plate's protests and gave Rolando Baumar a yellow card for diving instead. Rafael Guillelmus blasted a shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Cristobal Peter having to make a save. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Rafael Guillelmus to make the kick off. Rafael Guillelmus received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute.
