Roma's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. When Damaso Bastia came up free with the goalie in the 17th minute, the Sorento fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Damaso Bastia couldn't finish the play. 20 minutes into the game, Lino Fonda was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Roma's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sorento the free kick. In the 20th match minute, Roma was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lino Fonda to maneuver through the defense. In the 22nd minute, Siro Boniel got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Carolo Ignado made an important save on a dangerous shot by Adolfo Ospin in the 27th minute. The Sorento fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Lino Fonda fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hermengildo Mendebal having to interfere.
