With an extended leg and a bit of luck Sergio Berriotxoa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 12th minute, Ruben Alonso hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sergio Berriotxoa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Filiberto Felipillo, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. In the 19th match minute, Palmitas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hector Figueroa to maneuver through the defense. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Filiberto Felipillo made the kick off in the second half. After having played for 52 minutes, Severiano Benino managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Palmitas's supporters crossed their fingers, but Severiano Benino was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 53 minutes, Paolo Piarres mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Velez Sarsfield and the Palmitas players grew even worse after the yellow card.
