Rodolfo Txilar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Santiago Iraitz in the 10th minute of play. Laureano Ferrando sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Paulino Hernandez in the 14th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rodolfo Txilar prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Paulino Hernandez in the 19th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rodolfo Txilar saved Colon from getting behind. After 21 played minutes Estudiantes de La Plata got a freekick which was hit by Paulino Hernandez. Rodolfo Txilar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fausto Herena in the 32nd minute of play. Rodolfo Txilar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Laureano Ferrando in the 33rd minute of the match. When Santiago Iraitz came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Estudiantes de La Plata fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Santiago Iraitz couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Estudiantes de La Plata booed when Colon was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 35 match minutes in a wonderful position. Anastasio Frederik didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Paulino Hernandez's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rodolfo Txilar was relentless in the 46th minute of the game. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Paulino Hernandez might have been able to make a better finish in the 69th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rodolfo Txilar. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. The referee ignored Estudiantes de La Plata's protests and gave Pedro Naldo a yellow card for diving instead. After 93 played minutes Estudiantes de La Plata got a freekick which was hit by Pedro Naldo. 95 minutes in the game, Santiago Iraitz fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Rodolfo Txilar having to interfere. When the match was over Estudiantes de La Plata could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Colon throughout the match.
