The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Mauricio Romelio came up free with the goalie in the 5th minute, the Goyeneche fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mauricio Romelio couldn't finish the play. After 10 minutes, Primitivo Hondo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Navia and the Goyeneche players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 10th match minute, Navia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Primitivo Hondo to maneuver through the defense. Goyeneche's Desiderio Sandaili couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 11th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Navia. Honorio Llanos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alvaro Tirso having to interfere. In the 26th minute Mauricio Romelio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alvaro Tirso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 35th minute, Luisito Mikelar got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Mauricio Romelio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Honorio Llanos in the 40th minute of play forced Navia's goalkeeper Alvaro Tirso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Goyeneche's Honorio Llanos got a good chance for a goal in the 98th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When the match was over Goyeneche could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Navia throughout the match.
