But to his dismay, Omar Urritz quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. A collision led to Volcán getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Marciano Osoitz hit a great ball. Omar Urritz took the ball and in the 18 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Vladimiro Larpe. Vladimiro Larpe dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Oscar Constancio's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 21stth minute, Pablo Abeitia skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 22nd minute, Elpidio Baristo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Vladimiro Larpe took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Omar Urritz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 28th minute of the match Vicente Foro sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Pablo Abeitia skillfully saved the ball. Elias Macario recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 36th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Volcán's Elias Macario got a good chance for a goal in the 40th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Omar Urritz took the ball and in the 42 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Vladimiro Larpe. Vladimiro Larpe dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. After 45 played minutes, Volcán's Cosme Gelmiro shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Vladimiro Larpe came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Volcán reached it. In the 48th minute, Hernan Umbruso hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

RIVER PLATE got a freekick which was hit by Hernan Umbruso. Elias Macario fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vladimiro Larpe having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Oscar Constancio in the 78th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Pablo Abeitia prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 81 minutes into the match, C.A. RIVER PLATE's goalkeeper Vladimiro Larpe had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Omar Urritz. Pablo Abeitia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Amado Luzaide, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to C.A. RIVER PLATE's goal looked a bit too open when Elias Macario came free, but Vladimiro Larpe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Leandro Galeno hit a great freekick 92 minutes into the match. Pablo Abeitia showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amado Luzaide, who was totally free with the ball in the 99th minute. Volcán's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
