Pedro Gizon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 4th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Marcos Pueblo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pedro Gizon in the 12th minute of the match. 13 minutes into the game, Felix Hunfredo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Jacinto Panfilo was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Marcos Pueblo made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Apolo Frutos sent off a good shot on target. The audience was convinced that Felix Hunfredo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jacinto Panfilo was relentless in the 26th minute of the game. After 27 played minutes Saprissa got a freekick which was hit by Amador Paez. In the 28th minute, Guaberto Dominic got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 30th match minute, Saprissa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bernardo Ihazintu to maneuver through the defense. Pedro Gizon recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 38th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Apolo Frutos struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Marcos Pueblo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Saprissa. A collision led to Pipo Palomo getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Hilario Lehoi hit a great ball. 41 minutes into the match, Pipo Palomo's goal looked a bit too open when Pedro Gizon came free, but Marcos Pueblo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Elvio Pacho took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 47th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Marcos Pueblo. Pipo Palomo's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After the first half Pipo Palomo were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Pedro Gizon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcos Pueblo having to interfere. Marcos Pueblo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pedro Gizon, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. When Guaberto Dominic came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the Pipo Palomo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Guaberto Dominic couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Guaberto Dominic in the 68th minute of play forced Saprissa's goalkeeper Jacinto Panfilo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 71 minutes, Vladimiro Ekialde mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Pipo Palomo and the Saprissa players grew even worse after the yellow card. After having played for 85 minutes, Apolo Frutos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Saprissa's supporters crossed their fingers, but Apolo Frutos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Pedro Gizon received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Marcos Pueblo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Felix Hunfredo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
