The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ramiro Fanuco showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Alfonso Fernandes succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-0 in the 9th playminute. If Alfonso Fernandes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 15th minute, Hernan Jurdan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 16 minutes into the match, Saprissa's goalkeeper Jacinto Panfilo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Benicio Indar. Jacinto Panfilo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alfonso Fernandes in the 17th minute. 21 minutes into the match, Virreyes FC's goal looked a bit too open when Elvio Pacho came free, but Ramiro Fanuco reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Saprissa's Jacinto Panfilo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Teodosio Birjaio in the 23rd minute of play. In the 25th match minute, Saprissa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bernardo Ihazintu to maneuver through the defense. The crowd rose to their feet as Alfonso Fernandes kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Jacinto Panfilo. That made the score 2-0 in the 27 minute of play. Ramiro Fanuco took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Apolo Frutos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Virreyes FC's Alfonso Fernandes got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Bernardo Ihazintu kicked well hit freekick during the 34th minute of the match. Benicio Indar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacinto Panfilo having to interfere. When Bernardo Ihazintu fell near the penalty area in the 37th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Saprissa's protests and gave Bernardo Ihazintu a yellow card for diving instead. When the match had gone on for 41 minutes, Benicio Indar took a quick shot and it went in 3-0 without a chance for Jacinto Panfilo to make any attempt to save it. Jacinto Panfilo made a fantastic save in the 48th minute, when Alfonso Fernandes sent off a good shot on target. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Pedro Gizon stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ramiro Fanuco showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pedro Gizon in the 54th minute of the match. Jacinto Panfilo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Prospero Sayveon in the 56th minute of play. After 57 minutes, Apolo Frutos mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Saprissa and the Virreyes FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 57th minute, Apolo Frutos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Prospero Sayveon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jacinto Panfilo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Prospero Sayveon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 65th minute of the match Virreyes FC got a corner. Saprissa's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Teodosio Birjaio ran over to the corner to take the kick. After a defensive mix-up in Saprissa's zone, Alfonso Fernandes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jacinto Panfilo came out of the goal and Alfonso Fernandes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Teodosio Birjaio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Oscar Corderall hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. Apolo Frutos got his second yellow card in the match during the 70th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After 71 played minutes Saprissa got a freekick which was hit by Apolo Frutos. Virreyes FC's Prospero Sayveon got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 74 minutes into the match, Virreyes FC's Prospero Sayveon sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jacinto Panfilo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Jacinto Panfilo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Teodosio Birjaio in the 81st minute of play. With a left leg Jacinto Panfilo saved Saprissa from getting behind. 90 minutes into the match, Saprissa's goal looked a bit too open when Teodosio Birjaio came free, but Jacinto Panfilo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jacinto Panfilo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Prospero Sayveon's shot from short distance in the 94th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Teodosio Birjaio in the 95th minute of play forced Saprissa's goalkeeper Jacinto Panfilo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Benicio Indar in the 98th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jacinto Panfilo prevented the ball from getting in the gole.
