Club Deportivo Español's Cecilio Lorenz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leandro Hever in the 9th minute of play. When the match clock showed 10 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Leandro Hever sped through Club Deportivo Español's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Cecilio Lorenz. Cecilio Lorenz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Leandro Hever's shot from short distance in the 14th minute. Severo Ubarna received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Cecilio Lorenz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Gimnasia y Tiro defense, Nereo Jacindo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Teofilo Estavan. The Gimnasia y Tiro fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Teofilo Estavan should have stopped the shot. Cecilio Lorenz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Severo Ubarna, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. In the 44th minute Leandro Hever shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cecilio Lorenz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Severo Ubarna sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.
