The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Benigno Abaunza made a fantastic save in the 3rd minute, when Rodrigo Berbiz sent off a good shot on target. Emanuel Tallia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Delmar Domenec having to interfere. Andres Colas might have been able to make a better finish in the 35th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Benigno Abaunza. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Benigno Abaunza was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Godfredo Guillem made a kick off. If Delmar Mikelar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rodrigo Berbiz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benigno Abaunza having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Salvador Barros during the 60th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card.
