The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Fabricio Reyes showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. River Plate's Fabricio Reyes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by German Lauro in the 21st minute of play. In the 27th minute, Guido Aztore left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The River Plate fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. A collision led to River Plate getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Ermegildo Goyo hit a great ball. River Plate's Ermegildo Goyo got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ermegildo Goyo's late challenge caught a Reñico's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ermegildo Goyo helped the player get up and apologised. After 46 played minutes River Plate got a freekick which was hit by Ermegildo Goyo. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The ball had pretty good speed, but Fabricio Reyes firmly grabbed it by the left post. River Plate's Guido Aztore managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Victor Udalaitz in the 82 minute of the game. Fabricio Reyes made a fantastic save in the 85th minute, when German Lauro sent off a good shot on target. Fabricio Reyes was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but German Lauro showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-1 in the 87 minute of play.
