In the 31st minute Anier Manni shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gregorio Artaldo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Newell´s Old Boys's Gregorio Artaldo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Anier Manni in the 36th minute of play. Gregorio Artaldo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Anier Manni, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Mauro Eusko succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-0 in the 44th playminute. If Mauro Eusko had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Godfredo Bernebe made a kick off. Ceferino Domeka stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mauro Eusko's shot from short distance in the 52nd minute. In the 54th minute, Anier Manni fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Gregorio Artaldo, passed just outside the right post. After some careless play in the Newell´s Old Boys defense, Ildefonso Vimaro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gregorio Artaldo. The Newell´s Old Boys fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gregorio Artaldo should have stopped the shot.
