The audience was convinced that Godfredo Bernebe's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Isaias Baleren was relentless in the 3rd minute of the game. Tadeo Ler sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gregorio Artaldo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomás Ospin in the 16th minute of the match. Newell´s Old Boys's Gregorio Artaldo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Filiberto Abad in the 20th minute of play. Tadeo Ler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gregorio Artaldo having to interfere. In the 31st minute, Tomás Ospin left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Tatay fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Tomás Ospin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Tatay booed when Newell´s Old Boys was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Godfredo Bernebe didn't get a good kick on the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Mauro Eusko to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Mauro Eusko got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomás Ospin in the 61st minute of play forced Newell´s Old Boys's goalkeeper Gregorio Artaldo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hugo Dodorol hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. Tadeo Ler succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-2 in the 64th playminute. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Tadeo Ler managed to get in a good position for a shot. Tatay's supporters rose to their feet, but Tadeo Ler was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gregorio Artaldo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Newell´s Old Boys's Gregorio Artaldo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 71st minute of the match, managed to save Newell´s Old Boys from getting a goal against them. Godfredo Bernebe's late challenge caught a Tatay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Godfredo Bernebe helped the player get up and apologised. In the 79th minute, Tatay's Tomás Ospin dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-3. Feliciano Abeijon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Tomás Ospin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 88 minutes into the game, Newell´s Old Boys's Mauro Eusko nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Isaias Baleren made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. The Tatay supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Tatay would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
