River Plate's Leonel Ikatz got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Eloy Osorio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lino Rodas, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. In the 34th minute, Lino Rodas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Leonel Ikatz in the 41st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Genaro Mambru saved Acuña from getting behind. Arnoldo Merexildo kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

Acuña's supporters rose to their feet, but Lino Rodas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eloy Osorio breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
