The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Genaro Gai got free with Cesar Sabino in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Humberto Tirso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. RIVER PLATE FC's Cesar Sabino proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 32nd minute of the match, managed to save RIVER PLATE FC from getting a goal against them. RIVER PLATE FC's Bonifacio Chayo got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 34 minutes into the match, Joel Eguerdi had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Melchor Emenon. F.C.Ligamentos Cruzados's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Joel Eguerdi was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After having played for 41 minutes, Genaro Gai managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. F.C.Ligamentos Cruzados's supporters crossed their fingers, but Genaro Gai was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Marcelino Urdaspal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. RIVER PLATE FC's Joel Eguerdi got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Bonifacio Chayo made a kick off. When Humberto Tirso came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the RIVER PLATE FC fans jumped to their feet.
