But to his dismay, Zeledon Leizarraga quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zeledon Leizarraga in the 21st minute of play forced Mano Negra's goalkeeper Nicolas Abaunza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Jaime Dayam's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nicolas Abaunza was relentless in the 24th minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Mano Negra's zone, Zeledon Leizarraga stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nicolas Abaunza came out of the goal and Zeledon Leizarraga tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nicolas Abaunza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zeledon Leizarraga, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Nicolas Abaunza made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zeledon Leizarraga in the 94th minute of play. The Douglas Haig supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Douglas Haig would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
