But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Florencio Urbes couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, River Plate United's Florencio Urbes got a free kick in the 10th minute. Gaylord Pika showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Florencio Urbes in the 14th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in River Plate United's zone, Victorino Mon stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mateo Ignado came out of the goal and Victorino Mon tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Mateo Ignado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfonso Ekain in the 23rd minute of play. Esteban Sandalio hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. Felipe Edorta's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Gaylord Pika firmly grabbed it by the left post. River Plate United's Mateo Ignado played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfonso Ekain in the 29th minute of play. Mateo Ignado took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Victorino Mon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gaylord Pika made a fantastic save in the 37th minute, when Florencio Urbes sent off a good shot on target. Gaylord Pika came out of the goal in the 39th minute to try and stop a shot by River Plate United's Felipe Edorta. But to his dismay, Felipe Edorta quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. After some careless play in the River Plate United defense, Victorino Mon kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mateo Ignado. The River Plate United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mateo Ignado should have stopped the shot. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Florencio Urbes was the one to do the kick off. In the 58th match minute, Universidad Buenos Aires was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arnoldo Jordy to maneuver through the defense. Felipe Edorta scored 2-1 in the 59th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Gaylord Pika, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When Universidad Buenos Aires's Alfonso Ekain in 63 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Mateo Ignado guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. Victorino Mon received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Mateo Ignado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Felipe Edorta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gaylord Pika stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Felipe Edorta's shot from short distance in the 68th minute. Gaylord Pika showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Felipe Edorta, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. After 73 minutes, Felipe Edorta mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the River Plate United and the Universidad Buenos Aires players grew even worse after the yellow card.
