In the 2nd match minute, River Plate was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hipolito Maore to maneuver through the defense. The crowd rose to their feet as Pacifico Tejadillo kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Amadeo Barea. That made the score 1-0 in the 5 minute of play. Lugano Star C.D's Pacifico Tejadillo got a good chance for a goal in the 9th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Amadeo Barea made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andres Farias in the 11th minute of play. After 14 minutes, Teofilo Urdaspal mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the River Plate and the Lugano Star C.D players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 19 minutes, Pacifico Tejadillo mouthed his way into the referee's book. Arnulfo Ramos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Teofilo Urdaspal in the 21st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Omar Ostots in the 22nd minute of play forced Lugano Star C.D's goalkeeper Arnulfo Ramos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Arnulfo Ramos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Samuel Gonzalez, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Teofilo Urdaspal made a kick off. Teofilo Urdaspal kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. When Andres Farias fell near the penalty area in the 56th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Lugano Star C.D's protests and gave Andres Farias a yellow card for diving instead. After 59 minutes of play, Lugano Star C.D's Andres Farias made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Amadeo Barea was left in no man's land by his defense there! Samuel Gonzalez recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 68th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Lugano Star C.D getting a freekick after 69 minutes play. Pacifico Tejadillo hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, River Plate's Samuel Gonzalez got a free kick in the 70th minute. Esteve Azibar kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. River Plate's Amadeo Barea played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Saturnino Neto in the 77th minute of play. In the 80th match minute, River Plate was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maximo Indar to maneuver through the defense. Saturnino Neto hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. If Adolfo Mederi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 86th minute, one of River Plate:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for River Plate. In the 88th minute there was a penalty for Lugano Star C.D. Amador Chico stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Amadeo Barea. 3-0. Arnulfo Ramos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adolfo Mederi in the 93rd minute of play. Saturnino Neto charged in rather forcefully in the 97th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Saturnino Neto the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Arnulfo Ramos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maximo Indar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lugano Star C.D's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
