Alfredo Quico charged in rather forcefully in the 3rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alfredo Quico the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Lugano Star C.D booed when RiverPlate was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alfredo Quico didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Andres Farias had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 7th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Lugano Star C.D's zone, Anselmo Argenis stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arnulfo Ramos came out of the goal and Anselmo Argenis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 16 minutes into the game, Andres Farias was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Lugano Star C.D's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave RiverPlate the free kick. After a rather tough play, Lugano Star C.D's Andres Farias got a free kick in the 16th minute. Anselmo Argenis kicked well hit freekick during the 17th minute of the match. Faustino Caetano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arnulfo Ramos having to interfere. In the 21stth minute of the game Andres Farias who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but RiverPlate's Remigio Normando was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 22nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Lugano Star C.D's goalkeeper Arnulfo Ramos, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 24th minute, Pacifico Tejadillo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 26 played minutes Lugano Star C.D got a freekick which was hit by Silvestre Osorio. When Paulino Benet fell near the penalty area in the 28th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored RiverPlate's protests and gave Paulino Benet a yellow card for diving instead. Paulino Benet hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. Anselmo Argenis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arnulfo Ramos having to interfere. After 37 minutes of play RiverPlate's Paulino Benet was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After 38 played minutes RiverPlate got a freekick which was hit by Paulino Benet. Andres Farias's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 40thth minute, Remigio Normando skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. After a defensive mix-up in RiverPlate's zone, Andres Farias stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Remigio Normando came out of the goal and Andres Farias tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Pacifico Tejadillo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 46 minutes, Alfredo Quico managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. RiverPlate's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alfredo Quico was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Faustino Caetano struck a weak shot in the 48th minute. Arnulfo Ramos didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for RiverPlate. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Andres Farias was the one to do the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Victorino Garaile managed to get in a good position for a shot. RiverPlate's supporters rose to their feet, but Victorino Garaile was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Arnulfo Ramos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Andres Farias was shown his second yellow card after 64 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Andres Farias hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. Pacifico Tejadillo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 67 minutes into the match, RiverPlate's goal looked a bit too open when Luisito Galsino came free, but Remigio Normando reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luisito Galsino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Remigio Normando having to interfere. Pacifico Tejadillo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Remigio Normando read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 75th minute of play. In the 75th match minute, RiverPlate was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Faustino Caetano to maneuver through the defense. Pacifico Tejadillo scored 1-0 in the 76th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Remigio Normando, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 83 played minutes Lugano Star C.D got a freekick which was hit by Pacifico Tejadillo. In the 91st minute, Luisito Galsino made a precise shot to the right of Remigio Normando. RiverPlate's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. When Ovidio Urbes was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 96 minutes had been played. When the referee blew the final whistle, Lugano Star C.D could leave the field as winners, despite RiverPlate having more of the ball for most of the match.
