In the 91st minute of the match, Casimiro Rius got a very nice opportunity to score, but Nunez Fanuco was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 93 minutes into the game, Cristo Turi was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. River Plate's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ranquile the free kick. After a defensive mix-up in River Plate's zone, Antonio Aurre stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nunez Fanuco came out of the goal and Antonio Aurre tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Abelardo Pere had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. River Plate had played much better football throughout.
