River Plate's supporters crossed their fingers, but Anier Eusko was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Braulio Berenguer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jimeno Montae in the 28th minute of play. In the 33rd minute, Anier Eusko got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 36 minutes into the match, Jimeno Montae had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Braulio Berenguer. Independiente Avellaneda's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jimeno Montae was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

In the 70th minute, River Plate's Jimeno Montae dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-3. When the final whistle sounded River Plate left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Independiente Avellaneda.
