Hermengildo Cordeara started the match with the kick off. Hermengildo Cordeara received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Jairo Locaio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 5 minutes, Pastor Gonsalve mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Mean Machine and the NEWELL´S OLD BOYS players grew even worse after the yellow card. Pastor Gonsalve kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. Pastor Gonsalve made in the 8th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Adan Otoniel however managed to control. 9 minutes into the game, Pastor Gonsalve threw the ball into play from the sideline. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Desiderio Florian quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. In the 10th minute, Desiderio Florian hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Adan Otoniel made in the 11th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Teofilo Mergildo. Jairo Locaio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leo Lore in the 12th minute of the match. Jairo Locaio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Conrado Lluciano in the 15th minute of play. The throw-in from Pastor Gonsalve in the 17th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Desiderio Florian. Mean Machine's Jairo Locaio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hermengildo Cordeara in the 23rd minute of play. 24 minutes into the match, Mean Machine's goal looked a bit too open when Conrado Lluciano came free, but Jairo Locaio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Moises Atarrabi managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Pastor Gonsalve in the 28 minute of the game. In the 36th minute, Mean Machine's Arnulfo Oinatz dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-2. The throw-in from Pastor Gonsalve in the 39th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Desiderio Florian. Jairo Locaio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Conrado Lluciano, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Robustiano Crispo's late challenge caught a Mean Machine's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Robustiano Crispo helped the player get up and apologised. The Mean Machine players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS were winning 1-2.

The wind increased when Ivan Ebardo made the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute Hermengildo Cordeara shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jairo Locaio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of NEWELL´S OLD BOYS booed when Mean Machine was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Adan Otoniel didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 56th minute Conrado Lluciano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jairo Locaio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hermengildo Cordearas short, quick shot in the 58thth minute got Jairo Locaio to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Jairo Locaio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leo Lore in the 68th minute of the match. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's attentive Desiderio Florian managed to snatch the ball when Pastor Gonsalve made a throw-in in the 70th minute of the game. Jairo Locaio came out of the goal in the 71st minute to try and stop a shot by NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Conrado Lluciano. But to his dismay, Conrado Lluciano quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-4. Hermengildo Cordeara fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jairo Locaio having to interfere. If Conrado Lluciano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Jairo Locaio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hermengildo Cordeara in the 83rd minute of play. Conrado Lluciano could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 84th minute of the match, but Jairo Locaio made a huge save. In the 87th minute, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Hermengildo Cordeara dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-6. In the 91stth minute of the game Hermengildo Cordeara who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Mean Machine's Jairo Locaio was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Hermengildo Cordeara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mean Machine's Jairo Locaio proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 96th minute of the match, managed to save Mean Machine from getting a goal against them. The NEWELL´S OLD BOYS supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing NEWELL´S OLD BOYS would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
